On Saturday 16th March 2024 ECA hosted another superb Quiz Night. The event was sold out one week ahead of time, despite increasing the seating capacity, due to the popularity of this annual event.
Our quizzers were challenged by subjects including Black and British, TV and Film and Music. To add to the enjoyment there were raffles, including a free one for a bottle of champagne, music and delicious Caribbean food, courtesy of Zenith Cuisine.
The competition was close with 11 teams competing in the event. The leading team position changed hands in the last few rounds. Eventually, first timers, The Gooners, triumphed by just 7 points, relegating the reigning champions, The Caribbean Trekkers, to second place.
The event’s sponsor, Avril Nanton of Avril’s Walks and Talks, said of the night of fun, “My sponsorship of the event was totally worth it in all aspects! The event was well organised and I arrived not really knowing what to expect. However, I ended up sitting at a table with my husband Des, plus a wonderful group of ladies who all sat at my table and turned out to all be related! What a lovely loving family.
“Everyone played their part and we decided to call ourselves the First Timers as it was the first time we had all taken part in this quiz. We didn’t do too bad – we came fourth – so not totally useless then!
“Everyone left the event with a smile on their face, saying they’d had a good evening and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I would definitely attend another one. Well done ECA and thank you, from me and my husband and all who attended. Bring on the next one!”
Many quizzers commented on how impressed they were with the organisation of the event and the warm and friendly atmosphere. ECA patron, Leroy Logan said, “It was great to take part in another successful ECA fundraising event, not only as a proud Patron but also as captain of the winning team, called the Gooners. We were replicating our namesake football team’s performance as top of the league, however, in our case we were top of the pile for a premiership charity event.”
At the close of the event the room was still buzzing, with quizzers asking for another one before 2024. Our quizzes will not be disappointing, the provisional date for our next Quiz Night is November 2024.
