There was a good turn out in the brilliant spring sunshine for the Solidarity with Diane Abbott demonstration at Edmonton Green last Saturday, 23 March.

There was a good turn out in the brilliant spring sunshine for the Solidarity with Diane Abbott demonstration at Edmonton Green last Saturday, 23 March.

The demonstration was organised in around 48 hours by local community leaders, church groups and supporters united to show their disapproval of the comments. The demonstrators wanted to show solidarity with the country’s first black female MP

The rally in solidarity with the country’s first black MP and condemned the reported racist and misogynistic comments made against her by a Conservative Party donor. Frank Hester is reported to have said Labour MP Diane Abbott made him want “to hate all black women” and that she “should be shot”.

Passing motorists tooted their car horns to support the rally.

ECA members were in ambudance at the event with ECA patrons, Leroy Logan and Patrick Vernon  making rousing speeches.

The crowd sang that protest icon songs such as  'We Shall Overcome'  and there was rousing call and response from the vocal crowd gathered to make their disgust at Diane's treatment loud and clear. There was also a passionate call to further action from the speakers.
