Black headteacher wins the TES Headteacher of the Year Award 2022

Arthur Barzey Headteacher at Heron Hall Academy, Ponders End won the prestigious TES Headteacher of the Year Award.

Arthur Barzey Headteacher at Heron Hall Academy, Ponders End won the prestigious TES Headteacher of the Year Award. Mr Barzey was one of 8 shortlisted Headteachers, all of whom have outstanding, exemplary practice. Arthur beat off the competition to take the award. His entire senior leadership team his Chair of Governors, Oveta McInnis and his CEO Marino Charalambous were there to witness the event.

Oveta said “It is a privilege to work with Arthur, he is committed to school improvement. He has worked tirelessly to bring the school to a really good place. Last year under his leadership the school was awarded the Pearson’s Bronze Award for Outstanding School. Everything he does is for the good of the students. I am so happy for him, and his recognition by the education sector, he is a well deserving winner.”

The TES School Awards 2022 were held on Friday 17th June, at The Great Room, Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane London. The TES Schools Awards is an annual event celebrating the best UK teaching. This year for the first time the event brought together the awards for state and independent schools to create one national event, where excellence was celebrated across all schools in the UK. The event was hosted by Richard Ayoade.

There are many categories including School of the year, Primary School of the Year, Secondary School of the year, Subject Leader of the Year and School of the Year for Staff Wellbeing. There were more than 1,000 guests present from schools throughout the UK.
